Another warm winter day was forecast so my human decided we should head off for a hill scamper today to Moel Famau. We tried a slightly different route to the summit trig point by following the Blue Mountain Bike Route at the start, it is a steady climb for about three kilometres but nothing too difficult. The first view of Moel Famau show that the steady climb brings you out of the forest much higher than some of the routes we have used in the past.
First view of the hill, the track we used can be seen above the grassy part of the valley. |
The blue trail leaves the forest on Ffrith Mountain at the 380 metre contour and then our route went to the north and west of the forest with a steady climb up to the summit at 554 metres. I had a pause for water and treats on the way up and found the climbing easy.
Paws for thought - well treats and a drink, Moel Famau on the skyline, not as far as it looks. |
Once at the summit I had the obligatory trig-point photo shoot before heading down into the forest to Bwylch Penbaras.
Dexter.
PS I forgot to tell you I went to see some of my favourite humans at the weekend and we all went for some walks near Shrewsbury. I saw some cattle called ‘Dexter cattle’, wow I didn’t know I was so famous that a breed of cattle were named after me. The cattle were at Lyth Hill, the weather was brilliant (again) and the views were extensive.
