Winter walk - Bryniau Clwyd.

I took advantage of the dry and sunny weather today to head up to the Bryniau Clwyd (Clwydian Hills) again for a short walk. The weather was great with views extending from the Berwyn range to the south, taking in the Arans, Cadair Idris, Arenigs, Snowdon Horseshoe Carneddau and Glyders.  All looking fantastic with a covering of snow or frost on the mountains.
Distant (hazy) view of Snowdonia.
First summit on the walk was Penycloddiau, a start through the woods meant I could run off the lead before we got to the area with sheep and then it was back on the lead for the final trek up to the summit.

A quick break for a snack at the top of Penycloddiau before heading down again and on towards Moel Arthur.

Moel Arthur in the distance and I'm wondering why humans are such slow walkers!
The descent from Penycloddiau back to the car-park is very easy and in no-time at all (despite a slow human) I was heading up the slope to Moel Arthur, another of the Clwydian hill-forts. There was still some ice on the slope but not too much and the climb was an easy scamper for me to the summit which was my third named summit at 456m.

Wow - bagged another summit!  Moel Arthur.

I had another snack having found a nice sheltered bit of hillside with brilliant views to the south, west and north, and enjoyed some quiet time with my human. After a while we headed back to the car-park, all downhill and easy now that the ice had melted.

Overall the walk today covered 6.43 km with a height gain of 285 m, the weather was 2 C with a 10km/h SSE breeze.

Woofs and wags, Dexter.
